THESE ARE CHEESY AND WHEESY BUS SAFETY RULES

Stay on the sidewalk when walking to the bus stop. Try to always be with your parent/guardian when walking to the bus stop or home. If you have to walk alone NEVER talk to strangers who approach you. NEVER get in a car with someone you don’t know. If someone tries to take you, kick, scream and run to someone you do know.

Make sure you have your book bag       , homework        , coat/jacket (if necessary)        and have had breakfast long before the bus comes to get you. Be ready 5-10 minutes before the bus arrives. If waiting outside wait patiently. Do not run/play in the street or on the sidewalk while waiting.

Always look both ways before crossing the street and entering the bus. Use your              and          before

your         . Enter the bus in a line order with girls and the youngest going first. Make sure you hold on to the handrail and watch your step when boarding ex-specially when wet. Always greet the bus driver in a polite fashion and say hi or Good morning when boarding and good bye when exiting.

When on the bus go directly to your seat and stay seated. Do not stand up to open the window, stick any body part out of the window, go under the seat, sit on top of the seat, or get up while the bus is moving.

Never speak loudly when on the bus.                  The bus driver has to stay alert, listen to on coming traffic and drive you to your destination as safe as possible. Do not yell at the bus driver or any other children on the bus. Do not talk back to your bus driver or others in a disrespectful way.

Remember to keep your hands and feet to yourself at all times. Do not fight, pick on, or bother others because it can create a dangerous ride for you and other students on the bus.

Never eat, drink, or take items out of your book bag when on the bus. If you get on with food or a sharp object be sure to put it in your book bag as soon as possible. Do not throw things on the bus or out the window. The motion of the object can distract the driver and cause an accident.

Make sure to keep the aisle clear at all times of your feet, book bags or any other objects for safety reasons. Feet should stay in front of you on the floor while your book bag stays on your lap.

Never touch the emergency exit on the bus, only the bus driver can touch it. If an emergency occurs listen and follow the instructions the bus driver gives he/she is only trying to protect you.

In the event that you leave something on the bus wait until the next day to retrieve it. If you return to the bus you will be entering the
“DANGER ZONE”. The Danger Zone is when you are not 10 feet away from the bus and the bus driver can not see you. Being in the danger zone puts you at risk of being hit or harmed. Never walk behind the bus where the driver can not see you.
